1 x Intel Imac (Early 2006)
1 x Ibook G3 with Airport Card
1 x Dell Laptop with Wireless Card
1 X PC hardwired to router
Cable Internet modem RJ45'd to WAN on....
1 x Safecom (yeah I know) Wireless DSL Router (Latest Firmware)
Earlier in the year 2006, I was bouncing along nicely. Hid my SSID on the Router, MAC access list set up and WPA-PSK encryption. Every machine connected flawlessly at startup. Kept all hardware firmware up to date (router included) with no ill effects. Then comes the last two rounds of Apple Software and Firmware updates. Suddenly, everything but my shiny Intel Mac would automatically connect at startup or wakeup from sleep. It would appear to connect to the network but then would be unable to run any network or Internet apps. The only way that seemed to resolve this was by switching Airport off and on and connecting manually, sometimes if I was lucky it would connect automatically.
I trawled the internet forums for resolutions. I deleted shared keys, I used fixed IP's and not DHCP. I dragged Airport to the top of the list of preferred devices and disabled all but what I use. I disabled secure encryption completely (not ideal) and used WEP (again, not ideal) It regarded the network as an open network even though it was in the preferred list!!!! I deleted the preferred network and reinstated it....and nothing. Same old routine, switch off Airport, switch it back on. After several late nights and arguments with my partner (my turn to cook and all that!!!) I am ready to launch the Imac through the window. Everything else works fine with it just the Intel Imac.
Do I just buy a new router?
