Hello,

I have a 2.4ghz core 2 duo imac that i bought last christmas and since the beginning of january the wireless has kept cutting out. It does this about 10 times an hour. None of the other computers, mac or pc have this problem.

When the wireless disconnects the network icon in the top right of the screen searches but when i click on it the network is still there but not conncected. What i mean is that at no time does the router disconnect or turn off. I even bought another router of a different company to see if that would make a different which it didnt.

I have tried changing channels that the network is broadcasting on and everything. I think it may be a problem with the wireless card in the mac. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Josh

It's possible. Is your network secured with WEP or WPA? How far from your router is your iMac? Does the signal have to pass through any walls or floors? Does it make a difference where the iMac is in the house? Do you have this problem with any other computers in the house?

hi,

it doesnt matter how far away the imac is from the router and no none of the other computers in the house have the problem leading me to the belief that it is the actual wireless card in the mac that is the problem. Thanks

Josh

oh and sorry the network is secured with wep at the moment but i have tried both wpa and wpa2.

The reason I'm asking is there was a very sad Saturday afternoon several months ago where, after about 6 frustrating hours of troubleshooting, I realized that WPA passwords are case-sensitive. Not one of my finer moments :)

One other thing you might try (I don't have high hopes for this to work), check your router's settings to see if it's limiting the number of DHCP connections.

Is taking the iMac into an Apple store an option? You may indeed have a faulty Airport card.
