I made the plunge, I ordered an intel iMac, on the premise that in the long term all audio software will make its way over to the universal binaries etc..

So, with my 17" Intel iMac on the way and my mBox 2, anyone have any experiences running audio software (protools, logic, etc..) on these intels and how have they found it.

Neither ProTools or Logic is a universal binary, and thus neither will run on the Intel macs. A universal version of Logic is slated to come out in March. As far as ProTools, the current estimate is by the end of April they'll have a version you can run on the Intel machines.

Logic and PT will not work on the intel Macs via rosetta. Logic should be coming in march (i think this is when the rest of Apples pro apps are being ported) and PT will be ported whenever Digidesign decides to get off their lazy butts and port it. I do not think there has been a press release about PT, but in past experience (i.e. the OS 9 -> OS X transition) Digi will take their good time.

Have a link to that press release? I have not seen it yet. Will it be a free upgrade or what?

They won't? Why not?
Several people i know that bought the intel iMac have said that the programs (among other audio programs) will not even load. I havent actually experienced this first hand as i am still on PPC. Probably has something to do with accessing coreaudio via emulation, plus the rest of the software running emulation that is causing the issue (well thats my somewhat educated guess).

Logic 7.2 is coming out in February. Ableton Live will be coming soon, and Native Instruments, Steinberg, and others have pledged support for the Intel chips.

Now I don't feel so bad about going intel. Time to tuck some money away to buy logic.
