I gotta say, it sounds like an option. Suppose you torrent movies and TV shows. In a sense (for me) I could have it replace cable TV. And I can imagine how I would implement it too. So what is the problem with that?
If it is $700 more or less (Duo Core), and I have it for 5 months, that would take care of the cost of Cable TV ($60/month x 5 months = $300), and not having or buying a DVD player would be another $150-200.
That's nearly $500. So is that worth it?
So in the end it would pay for itself. Use the TV as a monitor? I'm not sure about that, but a small 15" LCD could be cheap to setup with it. I think in this sense it could be pretty cool.
And after an amount of time without Cable, if it isn't working out, you'd have saved a bit of money. I think it is all a realistic approach.
