intel mac mini headphone jack fails intermittently

This starting happening about a 4 days ago.

My headphone jack fails intermittently. I have speakers hooked up to it and sometimes sound will not play through the speakers. Even if I disconnect the speakers and plug in headphone sound does still not play through the headphones. I have even tried restarting and that does not work.

In my system preferences (In Sound Panel) it shows that something is connected to the headphone jack.

I have already had the entire logic board replaced once (under warranty) and that seemed to fix the problem for a couple months.

If I wait about a day or less magically the speakers start working again. This has happend twice.

Has anyone else had this problem? I have about 2 weeks left on my warranty. It almost seems like it is a software problem now, but I am not sure.

it also happens to me

I have 10 mac minis in a hotel in madid (spain) and one of them has exactly the same problem....

So as it is still on guarantee i think that the best solutiion is taking it to apple as i have been talking to the technical service but the lack of experience in the subject.

Bumping this because I have the same problem.

It appears to be related to the USB ports. Everything was working fine yesterday until I plugged in a 4th USB device. Then the headphone jack stopped working. I smell a short.

Sound works fine through my USB headset.

This theory needs more testing.

If it is a short, I assume the Apple store will replace the board? I'm am still under warranty.

I gave my Core Duo Mini to my mom after I got a new one, and the sound quit somewhere in the process (I wiped everything and reinstalled leopard, then set up bootcamp with xp since she is used to that). Never figured out what the problem was since I just had limited time to work on it. So now the solution for her is just to use the incredibly bad internal speaker.

I'm just posting here because it doesn't appear to be a hardware issue for my circumstance, and also its interesting to note others have had this issue.

I would say to call apple. A product that cost much money should at least work perfectly for 1 year.
