I'm assuming all my intel inside Apple machines have this Intel ME from core2duo onwards.
What I would like to know is, can an Apple ARM only iDevice offer the mass market a genuine option that is Intel ME free, assuming that Intel have not managed to sneak in similar low level backdoors on modem or other similar support chips.
This would be one huge reason for Apple to offer ARM in other devices IMHO.
However instead of converting the current intel Mac ranges to Arm simply build a macbook variant that is iPad under the hood.
I never though of this and it might be too messy but it would transition into a clamshell laptop form without transition. Yet third party options do attempt this... but imagine if Apple created a Laptop Docking chasis for iPad Pro... extra battery, extra ports apple style and Apple prices
Bye Bye Surface.
Purely illustrative but hey have been around for iPads. So would this be at the perfect Intel-ME-free device for the security concerned user?
In summary, the Intel Management Engine and its applications are a backdoor with total access to and control over the rest of the PC. The ME is a threat to freedom, security, and privacy, and the libreboot project strongly recommends avoiding it entirely. Since recent versions of it can’t be removed, this means avoiding all recent generations of Intel hardware.
