Intel Mini question

Could one of you lucky Intel Mac Mini owners try this out for me?

Please go in Display preferences, click the display rotation button and set it to 90 degrees rotation. Then when it has changed the orientation of the GUI and it asks you whether you want to keep that setting, click yes. Then work a bit with the user interface, e.g. move some windows, click the dashbord etc.

How does it perform? As usual or extremely sluggish? I have a 1.42 G4 Mini myself and like to rotate my 17 inch screen to work with vertical documents. However, with the G4 Mini this setting is almost not useable since it's soooooo slow. Might be due to the non-CoreImage supporting Graphics Card. Anyway, if you tell me that it works much better with the Intel Mini that would be one more reason to upgrade ...

works perfectly. i didn't see any slowdown at all with a bunch of apps running. feels exactly the same as the normal rotation.

That's good news! I want an Intel Mini! Do you have the Solo or Duo?

Core Duo with 1 GB of RAM and 80GB hard drive. looking back i wish i would have just ordered the 120GB drive and maybe even the 2GB RAM. i've already filled up the hard disk in less than a week. i'm considering adding a larger 7200 RPM drive.

Haven't they got built-in 7.200 rpm.? My friend has a top of the line Mini G4, and it goes very slow because of the HDD (only 4.200 rpm. hehe)

The Intel Mac minis have 5400rpm drives. It is possible to swap it out for a 7200rpm 2.5" HDD but you need to do it yourself and I think it voids the warranty.

Good speed boost though. The slow HDD is certainly a bottleneck in the Mac mini - it's why so many were advocating a slightly larger form factor to accommodate 3.5" drives that bring with them higher speeds and much higher capacities.
