From CNET:

Intel updated its processor list Monday with new Core 2 chips for Macbook Air-class laptops and a crush of Xeon processors for workstations and servers. The number of new processor models is 20 in all.

As reported earlier, Intel has introduced new power-sipping low-voltage (LV) and ultra-low-voltage (ULV) processor models for laptops such as the Apple MacBook Air and Dell Adamo.
The new LV and ULV processor models include the 17-watt SL9600 (2.13GHz, $316) and 10-watt SU9600 (1.6GHz, $289). More power-hungry Intel mainstream mobile processors are typically rated at 25 watts or 35 watts.

Could a MBA spec bump be just around the corner? Makes sense with Dell releasing the Adamo. I'm wondering if it still has 2gigs of RAM...

Isn't the Adamo slower than the Air? I thought it was running ULV 1.2GHz or 1.4GHz processors.

Couldn't the first two processors in that list make it on the next Macbooks? Not talking about the Air, which is already pretty powerful

yes thats right... wonder why apple could get higher power chips in but dell couldnt

Dell certainly could, they just didn't. The Adamo is heavier and slower and more expensive than the MacBook Air. It's got extra ports though.

Great news. Really awesome news.

It was originally scheduled to be a 2.13 last October. But a month ago Wikipedia changed it to projected 2 GHz. This is awesome news. Every little bit of power helps.

Now, what does Apple do? Will they upgrade the MBA now or soon? Or will they hold off and upgrade all of the Mac notebooks together? It's a tough call here. Part of me thinks they will, unfortunately, change the silver bezel to black.

I really want 4 GB of RAM at least as BTO option. Also, I need 256 GB SSD. I also want the glass buttonless silky smooth trackpad.

I actually don't know if there is a 256 GB SSD ready in the 1.8 form? I hope so but couldn't find any when checked looking to do a conversion. I think the glass trackpad is likely. I think since Adamo came out with 4 GB of RAM, Apple will at least offer as BTO.

So based on those items, it could be awhile for sure...

I guess most importantly, would Apple use a different CPU than the 45 NM SSF 17w Penryn Low Voltage chip this time? I certainly hope we see the same Small Form Factor chip and the SL 9600 sure fits in with my hopes.

Please Apple update the MBA to the SL9600.

I will order it the day it becomes available! Go MBA!

Sounds exactly what I am hoping for too.

Got a new job, so I should be able to start saving. I guess it's a question of timing. I think my VAIO is on it's last leg (7.5 years old).

I see a MacBook Air update soon…probably at the same time as an update to the rest of the laptops since the regular Penryns are also getting an update soon.

It would actually be nice to see THREE levels of chips:

2.167 ghz SL9600
1.867 ghz SL9400
1.600 ghz SU9600

The last could be a BTO option for those who're willing to sacrifice performance for battery life. The 10W TDP should be a pretty significant improvement over the 17W TDP of the SL9X00.

I don't think Apple would mix up the chips like that. I am totally happy with the 45 NM Penryn SSF 17W Low Voltage chips. I don't think they need to do Ultra Low Voltage with the SU chip. Doesn't make sense to mix and match. I think the low end MBA will get the 1.86 GHz SL9400 and the high end will get the SL9600 at 2.13 GHz. I hope Apple can improve the battery life on the rev C MBA by using the new battery technology used in the 17" MBP. It would be nice to get extra battery life there and not with a different series of CPU.

I think Apple got the mix of components really right with the rev B MBA, so I cannot imagine any changes. Went into Apple store yesterday and they only had one MBA on display. Was shocked because always had two there in the past. I wonder how the sales are of the rev B MBAs? In my group of friends, colleagues, and clients the rev B MBA is extremely popular. And I always search the MBA section here at MR, so I guess I just figured the rev B was doing really well? Would be nice to know what is going on... I hope Apple feels the need to keep the MBA around for a long time.

Let's hope the rev C is just around the corner...

Completely agree. I don't think Apple will mix and match CPUs. Sony is a big fan of the super ultra low voltage chips but Apple has never really been interested in them, at all. ULV or LV is about as far in terms of a performance/power tradeoff that I think Apple is willing to go.

I think they must be doing great so far, because they still don't have refurbished Rev. B so far.

Both Unibody MBs and MBPs have refurbished units for sale for at least 3 months, so it's a clear sign to me that they did it right with the Rev. B indeed.

both models of the rev B's are available on the online Hong Kong store. As a matter of fact have been thinking about the 1.6 model since I noticed them there

I find it strange that there are still no Rev. B's in the U.S refurb store. In the past, when I've looked just out of interest, the U.S refurb store has always had things available there far sooner than over here, as well as having a far wider variety of Apple products to choose from. We've never(to my knowledge)for example had refurbished cinema displays.
Here in the U.K there have been refurb Rev. B Airs available since early February. Without having any clue as to how individual Macs are selling it's also difficult to clearly think about some of these issues.

I live in Manchester and have yet to see a single Air(A or B)in the wild. Unibody MacBooks, white Macbooks rarely and Black MacBooks quite regularly.

Popped in one of my two local Apple stores last night, the Trafford Centre. I have for a while felt that the Air is thought of as the runt of the litter, primarily because of how it's displayed in both of 'my' Apple stores. For a good while now there's only been one Air on display, always just inside the store entrance on the left-hand side. One might read that and think it to be a good position but it isn't. It's basically the Apple store equivalent of the 'corner' where the naughty child is told to go, and to be quiet and not disturb anyone.
Last night I was actually shocked at the condition of the Air. It was tatty looking, lots of uneven keys, loose display and the 'best' bit? It was turned off.
Okay somebody may have turned it off(I turned it back on), but is a scruffy-looking unit with a loose display the best that the store can do? Against this there were five white Macbooks, eight unibody MacBooks, two 17'ers and six 15'ers. What do you think? Reckon they sell many Airs?
Nope, me neither.
None of which surprises me as the manager at the Trafford Centre store is a complete ****.

I hope the Air continues to go from strength to strength. It certainly won't be helped any however if it's treated this way at Apple's own stores.

I feel like the MBA is presented the same way here. It is in the corner and not presented well at all. Fortunately, I watched three people wait for each other to check it out. In the store for 20 minutes, I saw three 15.4" MBPs sold.

I hope the MBA is doing well, but I don't think that only refurbished rev A MBA being sold means the rev B is doing well. I think there are so many leftover rev A MBAs that Apple's priority is to dump them all first. It really makes a clear division between the A and B models with the A being super cheap and the B being full price. It's the best way for Apple to dump the As.

The more I think of it, having not sold any of the returned rev B MBAs may really put off making a rev C MBA. Especially thinking of the many stated returns due to lines on displays. I hope I am wrong!

I am definitely hoping for 4 gigs RAM on the C model. I don't even really mind the CPU right now, though the fact that those 17watt ones sound very tempting. Also, I wish Apple would stop with this proprietary crap on the MBA. I just want to put my own reliable hard drive, or SSD in there. Anyone know if I can get the SSD installed in the Air by Apple (I have the HDD model and am wanting the boost)?

The MBA is getting no press here in the states. In fact people still come up to me with glowing eyes and envy, then they point out the fact that they could never deal with such an underpowered laptop. (This coming from people who have pentium M and core duo dells).

So it's been confirmed that the new Xeon Nehalem Servers will be released soon:

Uh, I think you have this backwards. The reason it's taking so long for rev B to go up on all the refurbished stores is there aren't enough of them available yet to do so.

Of them all the MBA rev B is selling the worst, probably due to the bad rap it got from rev A.

Yep the Air needs to be boosted and whilst at it...do a price reduction otherwise it won't sell. I rarely see it and if i do its usually a 1.6 Rev A.

I miss owning one but it was just too limited for my needs, that and it always KPd whenever i tried to use remote install and my local Apple store couldn't fix it which was the final straw

I really wish you were right, but I seriously think it will be September before a new MBA is released. I would LOVE to see the rev C soon... it should be great.

I think that Apple is still dumping original MBAs. I think their inventory of rev Bs that were returned due to poor displays has to be growing. I cannot see Apple making the rev C until it can deplete the inventory. The original absolutely had to be replaced as it was too problematic. The rev B MBA is one solid Mac. It really holds its own.

I think a price drop for SSD would be warranted for sure. But that probably will not happen either. Like I said before, hope I am really wrong, but I doubt seriously a rev C MBA will be released anytime soon. I think another problem has to be the dumping of original MBAs for so much less than original cost has to be taking away from a few rev B MBA sales. I know they are filling two different markets right now, but it has to affect some sales of the rev B.

I really wish Apple would further reduce the price of the originals and dump them all and move on with the MBA. The original had to cost Apple a fortune.

I would say that you did the right thing by selling your original. Hope you have another Mac to get you through the hard times of waiting for a new MBA.

I definitely will upgrade to the rev C right away, and I hope Apple has the sales of the rev B to warrant an upgrade...
