Personally I would love to see Intel produce a compelling competing chipset. Intel is a great American company and competition generally is a good thing. However, that said, I think it has its work cut out for it.

Interesting. The point about Office is more that Microsoft has work to do to optimize its Mac software. Just converting to Apple Silicon isn't sufficient to bring about speed gains. They need to use the tools available.

Intel, as always, is comparing Apples to Oranges (pun intended).

A top of the line Core i7 vs the first M1 Apple silicon (clearly a light/power focused chip) is no way to run a side by side performance benchmark.

But it’s interesting to see the Intel is worried and how much optimization is still required by Microsoft and other software developers to fully utilize Apple silicon.

My guess is the M2 or M1X will surpass the Core i7 and if Intel had run the test comparing M1 with Core i3 or i5 it would produce very different results.

The unfortunate truth is AMD is the underdog in the worst way. No matter how much better it is over Intel there's just very few companies that care to use AMD's processors anymore.
HP has business class notebooks running AMD processors.

Apple isn’t sitting still. If the supposed benchmark for the A14X is true, can only imagine that the M1X would be comparable or even better if it is a 12 core CPU with a 12 core GPU. Apple is going to be moving the goal posts again and surprise everyone.

?? Dell, Asus, Acer, Lenovo...
I think you knew what I meant. My point was when you go to Best Buy, any home shopping TV shows or even Costco the computers they sell are infused with Intel processors. Sure Dell and others have AMD but they don't have a dominance on mainstream computers and AMD doesn't hold a candle to Intel's market share. And if AMD is in so many computers then why did Apple choose Intel and only use AMD's dGPU's?

Business-class notebooks aren't the mainstream.
They are in the same price range as the ones Intel is using in its comparison charts. And how are "business-class notebooks" not mainstream? By definition, they are sold in large quantities to businesses for their employees. I have a "business-class notebook" on my desk right now.

Most CPUs in the top 10 by sales on Amazon are AMD. They were behind in 2006 when Apple went Intel but have regained dominance in the past 3 years with the Ryzen line. By the time Ryzen appeared, Apple was probably already considering a switch to their own designs based on ARM.

I have no more interest in using Intel. Apple is the new king of processors, as far as I am concerned.
intel hype is gone cause of pricing. The last purchase huawei d15 ryzen(sold). The laptop temp before getting the m1 laptop. Are the laptop bad ? pretty good only not for gaming.

That may be true but it's certainly not because consumers are specifically looking to buy an AMD equipped laptop, I would argue the majority of people don't even know what CPU they are buying, let a lone care. The majority of laptops sold in those top 10 lists, are your low budget, no frills gaming, etc laptops... the "Amazon Specials", and that's where you're going to find AMD in anyways. That's not to say Intel isn't in budget laptops too, but most budget laptops sold do have AMD installed and so those top 10 lists are a side effect of more "On Sale" laptops being sole that just happen to have AMD installed. Granted there are a fair number of people now who do specifically want an AMD powered laptop, but for those lists, yeah, it's just the result of more people buying "On Sale" laptops that happen to have AMD CPU's installed in them.

Intel's fall came when they were unable to move beyond their 14nm process. Their latest desktop line reminds me of AMDs processors back in the late 2000's and earl 2010's... power hungry.

That was top 10 CPU sales, not laptop. Given their superior performance per watt, a smart buyer of a midrange or higher laptop would definitely look to AMD these days but, as you said, few would care.

Oh well yeah, forsure. Most people building their own computer these days are going to buy AMD CPU's, that you can't deny. Intel for the longest time has just been stubborn and kept their prices high, while AMD came out of the gates swinging offering more cores, faster multi-core performance, and now beating Intel for Single Core performance, all while being cheaper. (At least were cheaper... now even AMD is pulling an Intel) I have 2 gamings PC's for my kids and they are both equipped with AMD Ryzen CPU's.

But Apple doesn't really compete for that business, and this thread is specifically about a marketing campaign where Intel compares its latest chips to Apple's M1. The Ryzen chips should be part of this conversation, since they are also used in notebooks in this price and market segment.
