Im coming from a 2017 MBP dual core 13 inch with 8gb/256gb.

I backed up to time machine. Set up the new air with that back up.

My MBP has 37gb free space, my M1 Air has 60gb?

Im scared im missing something and I don't know what? Has anyone else experienced this?

Caches and snapshots. I would not be worried about this as long as data folders line up.

well that's what im saying, its a lot of stuff to sift through to be sure lol. but I see, you're probably right I hope! wouldn't make sense that my 10 minute old backup would be missing actual user data I imagine.

I have seen similar differences migrating between Intel machines. And even on a a single Intel machine Finder can fluctuate by that much on how much free space is reported.

Dasiydisk seems to handle usage reporting better and faster than most (but ignore the useless graphic) and are a quick way of checking size of important folders on the migrated drive compared to the source drive.
