Intel just called me to confirm that there will be no fix for the original 80 GB drives with the bootcamp issue.

The only resolution is to RMA your drive for the newer revision that does not have the boot camp issue.

Intel is sending me a new drive.

Yeah there will be a fix. And the 'new' drive is the same hardware just but with updated firmware.

The fix will be a firmware update tool that end users will be able to download. It will be available quite soon.

Engineering said there would be no fix

They cannot upgrade the firmware on these. That is why they are sending me a new one.

Are you sending yours in first?

I know for sure that the firmware can be upgraded. I dont think the person you talked to knows that they were talking about.

If I were you and you have to send in your drive first, then I would just wait for the fix to be released instead. But if they are sending you a new one without you having to send yours in first, then that sounds like a sweet deal.

I requested a cross+ship.

They charge $25 for that but it gets to you overnight and I am tired of waiting for a rumored patch that does not exist.

My case was escalated to the engineering team responsible for these drives. That is why my case took so long.

The Intel SSD engineering team said that there will be no fix and that only the new gen drives will work.

They even have different part numbers for the working drives.

Really. Weird. That is not at all what I am hearing from Intel. Oh well, we will see soon enough.

anyone knows if I can get the new drives on newegg, how can I know what I'm buying is the new drive?
