hi all,
i have a black macbook from a loooonnngggg time ago (got it when i was in 6th grade now im sophomore) and i am looking to buy a mac mini to play Steam games on. i upgraded my macbook to 4GB RAM. i want to know if i can take the RAM from my macbook and put it into a 2010 unibody mac mini.

Your MacBook uses DDR2 (or older) while current Mac Mini uses DDR3, so no, you cannot use the RAM from your MacBook
 
No, the new Mini is DDR3 whereas your RAM is DDR2. Completely incompatible. :)
 
What's the need for 8GB? Gaming doesn't need a ton of RAM, especially for Steam stuff. I got by with 2 gigs for quite a while

There's not a huge need unless you find yourself running lots of programs or a few with big memory needs. I've had coworkers who rarely bothered to quit a program then came to me wondering why their Mac was suddenly so slow.

That said, if I was going to upgrade the RAM in a Mac mini right now, I'd go ahead and get 8GB. It's cheaper than ever.
