...Don't bother.

Well thats not entirely true, as long as you know what kind of game your buying and you do your research.

The game is very basic as a lot of people have already said. The societal values are an interesting addition. Check the simcity forums:

for the civil unrest from the SimCity fans. I'm just praying for SimCity 5 to remain on the cards. :(

As expected though, I've been following it quite some time as a pretty big SC fan, and really the minute they said it wasn't going to be a traditional SC game, I just kind or knew it was going to be crap.

EA's attempt at cashing in on the "Wii" market, for the PC a bit.

I'm also waiting for a real Sim City 5, until then I'll just enjoy SC4 with all the great add-ons (I guess this would be my main reason for bootcamp, but damn I would spend too much time in it :p)

Hmm...Well the game don't look too bad, I didn't even know they had released a new SimCity. I bought SC4 about a year ago and while it's a good game there's just waaaaaay too much you have to keep up with as mayor, I like SC3k a lot better.

I was a huge simcity fan and it is really sad to see it take the direction it has. Simcity 3000 was the high point of the whole sires and it went downhill from there.

Simcity 3000 was a huge improvement from simcity 2000, it looks better, felt better and the game was more enjoyable. I was really interested in Simcity 4 but i never liked the regions concept, i want to build a huge city the way i want and Simcity 4 did not offer me that. I had to divide my city into 5 cities which i did not like.

Simcity Societies is a total disaster, the concept is bad, the balance is even worse and dont me get started on how you build the city. I really do not want to pick every single building in my city, i would like to develop zones where i would see different kinds of builds pop up. I would like to have more control on that but not total control. And why does Maxis (are they still making the sires?) think the more simple the game the better?

Its sad to see such a good game go to total waste, i guess i need to reinstall simcity 3000 which i think is better then the two other games that followed it.

Well I have to say I prefer Sim City 4 over 3, but 4 is an evolution of 3 whereas 3 was a revolution from 2 so to that extent I see where you are coming from.

And FYI you dont have to build neighbor cities if you dont want, a solo city in 4 is perfectly playable and fine.

But I agree that Societies is a bit of a side-track. But lets keep in mind that its not called Sim City 5. It by no way means that the traditional city building game is dead. Although I would feel better if there was some finite news about "Sim City 5". I think societies will be worth a test drive and will attract its own base as the Sims have.

For now I am happy with Sim City 4 Rush Hour. Especially given how active the community still is. There are tons of add-ons being made every month, something new everyday that makes the cites more real. I have a beautiful sea side board-walk and a Starbucks at every corner! :D

How is that possible? can you make a map and the map is one region?

Well ya could actually. But you really just simply dont build neighboring cities. You can use the same "rules" as before. Commercial centrally located within residential and dirty industrial a ways away. The only weird thing is High-Tech industrial which is clean and likes to be near residential, but that type of industrial will not develop until you city is older with a high educated population.

But I should add that the neighboring cities thing is nice. It add realism. I often have a very large metro city with small "country" towns around it dotted on major highways.

And like I said before, there are TONS of mods, add-ons, etc for SC4:

What do you need Bootcamp for? SC4 is available for and runs natively on the Mac.

Because unfortunately:
A - SimCity for runs AWFULLY on Mac OS X (IMO) and
B - Very few, if any of the great mods for SimCity 4 are compatible with the Mac version

Sim City 4 was a great game except for the whole region concept and the fact it was almost impossible to keep a large city under control. I always had to use money cheats to keep my sims happy and even then it was impossible. All I wanted was one huge map created by the automatic generator as in 2000 and 3000. I like my cities to have an ocean, river, and some mountains so I can use all the different building and bridge types and using god mode didn't work because then your city map wouldn't line up with your region map.

Tried to play the game on my MBP running Vista and the game would crash about five minutes into the game every time I tried to play it. A shame because I am a big Sim City fan, I hope SimCity 5 becomes a reality, and soon! :)
