I saw this interesting Blog post on .Mac today, thought I'd share.

I guess someone at <Insert flash drive maker here> should write a post about how the internet went down and Rick only had a single copy of his term paper on his iDisk, but then Rick remembers how he had his Flash drive in his pocket with a backup copy he made and printed it successfully in time for class...

iDisk would be more usable for me if it wasn't so painfully slow. Backups are the most important thing. I clone my flash drive to my laptop, my desktop, my iDisk, and my school's server.

Typical marketing. I don't see those scenarios of losing a flash drive as being realistic.

I don't know, I'm on the fence about .Mac services. It's expensive, when all you get is a gig of web storage when my free GMAIL account gives me 2gb +

Five years later, Rick types his final college paper on Stacy's iMac. He saves it to his iDisk, and plans to print it when he arrives home. He arrives at his apartment, goes to print his paper, and sees that .Mac is down. Rick goes to the store, and purchases a new jump drive.

One could also insert comment about backup or procrastination here ;) ... Seems he should have emailed it to himself or at least checked to see if Stacy had emptied her trash.

One should always email papers to themselves.

I wonder when Gdrive is going to debut.

No kidding, I always e-mail a copy of any important stuff to myself and put it on a flash storage thingie or an iPod or something similar when I can. Not to mention you can get a 1GB flash drive for far cheaper than .Mac any day...
