So I added 2 16gb sticks of memory to the new 2020 iMac. Everything was running fine but my download speed. I normally get 300gb but with the additional memory I was getting 215 with downloads constantly stopping. Just for my own curiosity I took out the 32gb and repositioned the original 8gb I got from Apple. My download speeds immediately went back up to 315gb.

Is this normal for RAM to affect download speeds?

My wife’s iMac had problems with 3rd party ram mixed with Apple ram. Took out the 8gb Apple ram and just used the OWC 32gb. No problems since.

I had read that Timetic was pretty reliable but not so in my case.

What happens if you remove the Apple RAM, and run with the 2 16gb DIMMs only?

(there seem to be numerous reports of 2020 iMacs in which the Apple factory RAM doesn't play well with 3rd-party RAM...)

Have you installed timemec memory with apple memory or separately?
Based on the memory parameters, everything should work normally.

I had both the Apple ram installed and the Timetec. Everything else was fine but the one problem was download speed and internet browsing. I returned the Timetec. It was weird. I just never thought RAM would impact download speeds.

Interesting thread.

It's almost as if Apple don't want users upgrading their own systems....

Well, apple is still not a charity ;)
Therefore, you need to be glad that at least memory can be expanded yourself without paying space money to Apple, albeit with a little effort :)
