I thought that my iPad Mini 6 exhibited occasional keyboard lag system-wide but it doesn’t. It’s only whilst typing in Safari. Some keys are just not registered unless I type exceptionally slowly but this is intermittent. It has happened three times whilst typing this post. I have reset the dictionary, switched off predictive text, switched off dictation and rebooted etc but there has been no improvement. I’m on 15.7.1

Does anyone else experience this or have any advice?

Hmm. Well after spending hours on this issue I seem to have fixed it. I switched reduce motion on (and then back off again after rebooting) and also turned off keyboard clicks (and left them off). Now the Apple keyboard has no lag. Lots of people on Reddit have this issue but seemingly nobody here. Maybe you all have your keyboard clicks turned off…

This has been an issue with typing on iPads for years. I first noticed on the original iPad Air back in 2014 the lag in keyboard clicks. I believe it occurred after a particular ios update but it could have always been there. And it has continued through every ipad I’ve had since including my current 12.9 M2. I have always had keyboard clicks turned off because of this but the M2 was so new I hadn’t yet done so and noticed it right away on the onscreen keyboard. But I primarily use a physical keyboard with this and my previous iPP so I don’t really encounter the issue. Back in those years with the iPad Air I did also encounter a delay in the appearance of letters while typing and that happened intermittently but was normally resolved with a later update. The keyboard click sound problem though has never been solved to my knowledge so it’s best to just turn it off.

Just a guess since we had forum members over the years mention higher battery drain on the forum and other issues, have you installed an ad blocker in your Safari to see if it makes a positive difference?

Yes, I have Ad Blocker Pro installed..I seem to have fixed the problem but will remember to try disabling the ad blocker should it come back.

Not related to Safari, but I had experience stutter in Home Screen intermittently. I solved it with reset all settings.

Disabling keyboard clicks can help with keyboard lag? Wow, I will try that! My 9.7-inch iPad Pro’s keybaord has been lagging ever since Apple forced it out of iOS 9 to iOS 12, and I never considered trying that. Hopefully it works!
