I’m experiencing an intermittent (but consistent/common) lag typing text with my iPad Pro 2018. This seems to happen with both bluetooth and the Magic keyboards (I don’t do a lot of serious typing with the on-screen keyboard so I can’t comment there). While it is usually just a second or two it can last upwards of 3-4 seconds, making it feel like the app itself is frozen. It seems to have in any app (happen twice already just typing this post). I don’t remember it being an issue before upgrading to iOS 14.

Anyone else experiencing something like this? I’m not sure how to even report it to Apple because it is common but not repeatable.

Yes. IPP 10.5. Mostly happens when using while charging. But can randomly happen at other times. It started with a late 13.x release and continues.

I don't remember it happening earlier than iPadOS 14. If it did it was infrequent enough not to bother me. Now it seems to happen about every time I type more than a few words. If it is the same problem, and it has persisted that long, that doesn't look good for a fix.

My iPad Pro is still on iPadOS 13 and I don't remember experiencing such issues on it. However my regular iPad (6th gen) is on iPadOS 14 and I do experience such issues. Some of them might have been when the iPad was plugged in for charge. I will try to monitor it more and closely to see if it happens only during charging or also when I use it freely.

As a whole this iPad has always been acting up during charging. It is not just the typing experience, Books also have issues and sometimes the pencil gestures do not get registered. Overall it is really best to not use while I am charging it because the experience is of annoyance.

ETA: I just experienced lagging typing in this forum. I wanted to delete a sentence but I could not select. The cursor would not move. The iPad is currently charging btw.

Yesterday I started noticing severe lag while handwriting notes in Noteability.

Following a hunch here, has anyone filled up their iPad storage? I did (briefly) but since archived and removed several large projects. However, despite Settings reporting the iPad now has ~half the storage free, I get errors when I try to copy large files to the iPad. Eventually the copy but it usually takes several tries and a long wait.

The two issues seemed unrelated but I remembered someone saying that Apple’s proprietary SSD control is RAM-less. Could it be that garbage collection is intermittently locking up our iPads?
