Internal audio not working after HD upgrade

I picked up a C2D mini and got it in the mail today, everything worked great, so I went ahead and put in a 500GB internal drive to replace the small 80GB standard one. However, when I finished putting everything back together and started it back up, I noticed there was no sound. Sound still works through the headphone jack, but not the internal speaker. Additionally, booting the old drive through USB shows it's not a software issue from the new install. Is there a connector for the internal speaker that I may have inadvertently disconnected? I don't even know where the speaker is located, so it's kind of hard to know where to look. Anyone able to help me out? I tried reseating the ribbon cable which I thought was for the audio board, but that didn't change anything, and I'm about 99% sure it's in properly. If I go into the sound settings in the system preferences when the headphones are unplugged, the option is there to play sound through the internal speakers, but obviously nothing happens. Additionally, the line in tests fine as well, so it doesn't appear to be soundboard related.

There is a cable for the internal speaker in that model Mac Mini. The internal speaker is under the optical drive facing toward the front. If you have the cover off of the Mini and looking at the optical drive slot, you'll be able to easily see the black oval shaped speaker cone.

So I would have to take the assembly off the frame again to get to the cable? The only connector I see on that side is the hard drive thermal sensor (I think, it's the connector on the right of the battery.)

Yes, take off the top cover and the hard drive/optical drive module. Follow the speaker wire to where it reconnects.

Ok, I checked and it appears to be the thin double wire, but it was completely snug. I reseated them all anyway just for good measure, but that did not solve the issue. The wire is securely attached to the speaker itself. Is there anything else that might be causing it, before I just reattach the cover and call it broken?

Make sure the headphone jack is not "stuck"....if my old brain recalls correctly there were posts way back about someone putting headphones in and when they unplugged them, they got no external sound. Turns out something in the headphone jack did not release and the Mini thought headphones were still plugged in even if they weren't.

Ok, what would I be looking for exactly? Is there some physical sign or do I just have to unplug and plug the jack in a few times to see if anything changes?

Theres a red light inside the audio port if it is stuck.

Ah, ok. It's not stuck then, because there is no light. Perhaps the speaker wire is not in as good shape as I thought, I suppose moving it after years of being in the exact same spot might cause problems, or perhaps it was even intermittent when I bought it, but just didn't notice since I had only had it for an hour or two before I upgraded it. Regardless, thanks for the help and suggestions everyone.
