Hello,

I have a 3,1 whose internal DVD drive is malfunctioning. It seems PATA drives are history, but there are SATA to PATA converters on the market for a few dollars. These are mounted to the back of the DVD drive.

Has anyone used these in a 3,1? Any trouble with fitting and/or operation?

Thank you.

Ah, yes, that's certainly an attractive alternative.

However, SATA DVD drives do not use a Molex power connector anymore and a power adapter cable would be required as well, right?

Is there any particular drive that is preferred these days?

Thank you.

Why not just get a BD/DVD drive with the proper IDE interface?
