I have a question about internal hard drives. What kind of harddrive can I buy for my g5? I have seen various formats such as SATA, EIDE, etc.

Are all internal hard drives compatible with OS X on my G5? I have been looking at a few, and some come with controller cards which I don't know anything about.

thanks again.

And I am runing 10.4.5

If you have a G5 you'll want a SATA drive. The sky is the limit on drive capacity too. Drives are pretty much universal components for all computers. You'll just need to format it to HFS+ in Disk Utility.

what about the SATA drives that come with a controller card?

Do I need this, what is it for?
Most SATA drives don't come with a controller card. Your SATA controller is built on your motherboard. You'll only need the controller card if you have an older Mac or want a ton of drives, more than two, in your machine.

Is it an iMac G5 or a Power Mac G5?

Rev A Dual 2ghz PowerMac G5. My 150GB HD is getting full and I was thinking of getting a 250GB or 300 GB HD to get some breathing room.

Here is an example of a HD I was thinking about. It says it comes with a PCI card which I don't think I would need or use. (I know its out of stock, but it is an example.)

Just don't use the controller card then.

This bundle includes a PATA/SATA PCI Card which allows a system that is Parallel (PATA) to convert to a Serial (SATA) format. SATA interface is the world's fastest ATA interface - 150 MB/sec! Result: Files opperate faster and data is accessed at aquicker speed.
You already have SATA support. The card is moot.
