Internal HDD error(help)

Hey there I just connected an internal Hard Drive and it says my computer can not read it. It is Hitach Sata drive 500GB a at 7200rpm. here is the error I get any help would be appreciated thanks in advance.

i presume this is a new (empty) spare drive? did you try initializing (formatting) it? Normally drives come pre-formatted as FAT which i would have thought the mac would accept, but maybe not. If it's empty there's no harm in re-formatting it as HFS (journaled). Check your connections are tight and the cable's not overly twisted too.

ok I verified the drive and that went succesful, where do i format it? I don't see an option for that in disk utility

select the drive > erase tab > volume format (Mac Extended Journaled is best), give it a name, click Erase. done.
