Why do you think Apple have resisted going down the path of the Media Center setup like Microsoft has?

I understand that there is some good stuff coming from EyeTv and other third party developers, but that hasn't stopped them in the past.

Is it more that they want to go with their own digital strategy (itunes, iTV) rather than to give customers choice?

It seems like with the size and shape of the new iMacs, that they missed a great opportunity to capture a converging market of internet access for the TV and TV from the computer.

Why would they want to give you a tuner when they sell TV shows on iTunes?

I think it is a good thing to have the tuner separate...

It may also be for the same reason they have Apple TV. A lot of people don't have their computers near cable. I don't know anybody personally that does. I'm aware that some people do, especially those that live in college dorms. The Apple TV was made to get content out of your computer and onto your TV. Unless they made something to get my cable from my living room to my computer room it'd just be a waste of money.

Diddily Daddily...
more importantly, what tuner would they provide? ATSC? CableCard? Analogue? DVB-S? DVB-T?

Elgato fills most of the market for this sort of device with Mac users, Miglia and others fill the remaining pockets.

Apple wants you to buy TV content via the iTMS, not receive it by other means. Plus, they have the AppleTV. For these reasons, I don't see a tuner in the iMac's near future.
