Should i be worried about the internal power source in the new mac mini's because I have heard that if there is a power surge it will fry and you need a replacement. So can i get some feedback?

I use UPS's on all my computer equipment and for that matter my (what I consider) expensive HDTV's and related equipment too.

APC offers a large one (i.e. it keeps running longer during power failures) and you can get replacement batteries should you need one-but usually the original batteries last 3-5 years.

Check out model# BR1500LCD. They cost under $200 and have like 6 plugs on the back for every piece of equipment in a room since you can also run extensions to them (this is probably not recommended, but I do it with small draw accessories like my DSL modem, etc.) Of course it also stops surges.

By the way a Genius bar guy told me that all surge equipment should be replaced after 6-7 years since they loose their effectiveness after that long.

So I guess they wont replace the mac mini if it gets fried? ill almost always have it on a power strip but im just making sure

Actually I am not so sure they won't. But if it gets fried there is a good chance many other gadgets will get fried too.

Example-we had a lighting bold hit about 250 feet from the house. Nothing connected to the UPS got hit, BUT I had a sub-woofer plugged directly into the wall near everything else and forgot it was not plugged into the UPS. Well, it was out at the street for garbage pick-up the next day. $250 thrown away due to my stupidity.
