Wondering if anyone can help:

I have a Newer Tech Software RAID setup with three drives in my mac pro (2010, yosemite)....Lately, it has been ejecting on its own periodically and I get the error message. The only fix is to restart the computer.

Checking the event log, a sample of the alert messages are as follows:

Disk 'WDC WD2002FAEX-007BA0-WD-WCAY01016815' (Location: Device_1_4) temperature is higher than threshold.

2016/2/9 20:24:52 Device 'WDC WD3003FZEX-00Z4SA0-WD-WCC13RANC44S' at Controller1-Channel1 SMART test result: FAILED!

So far I have tried monitoring the temperature by increasing fan speed on HDDs.

Anyone have this experience or have any suggestions?

Thank you.

Thanks.

Not sure I follow on how to check? Disk Utility says Smart status not supported.

It seems odd that one utility reports a S.M.A.R.T. error, while Apple's disk utility says "SMART not supported".

FreshBread - what's the exact message? SMART can be enabled or disabled per drive. WD Black drives definitely support S.M.A.R.T.

Hi. Thanks again. Actually pulled out the pdf on the RAID controller and figured out how to "expand" the smart report...everything says "OK". My suspicion is either a temperature issue (what is the okay operating temperature for a spinning HDD?) or something else, like a loose connection (though I checked that too--that would make it randomly eject). Thanks.

Can you post the SMART output for all three drives? (A good open source command line smart tool is at https://www.smartmontools.org/wiki/Packages )
