International AT&T 3G Data Plans for ipad

Forgive me if this has already been announced somewhere, but for anyone who'd be interested (they're pretty rip-off if you ask me):

International AT&T 3G Data Plans for iPad
(all plans are for 30 day blocks)
20MB - $24.99
50MB - $59.99
100MB - $119.99
200MB - $199.99

These plans will not auto renew like the domestic plans will.

So there you have it.

If you travel internationally, get local prepaid SIM :)
 
i think/hope they have a North America Plan at better rates which would benefit the Canadians like me who are going to have to subscribe to AT&T if we can't macgyver our Rogers data plan sim cars to work.
 
how do you activate this?!:confused:

let's say i go to mexico w/ my iPad from the U.S , will the iPad scan the local cellular networks? or the iPad will be ready?!

ohh and 20MB is small!:mad:
 
I am headed to Mexico in May...

...and these plans are downright worthless. Last year when I traveled I think it was $10.00 to add international roaming to my corporate ATT iphone and then I tethered that to my MB when not in WiFi.

This $ amount is ridiculous given the useless about of MB allocated. Looks like for this trip the iPad will be WiFi only...

The prices are high, but its international. I've paid 15.00 (?) for WiFi access at Narita because I had to send a single email consisting of a single word: YES. It sucks, but it is just the way things are.
 
Question

Will the ipad be sold to people from outside the us? I heard that if you went to an apple store they wouldn't sell it to you :confused:
 
Same as the iPhone. I travel on business and I have paid the dough for the 100mb a few times. I said a few times. The average person may go overseas on pleasure once in their entire lives. That is why the price is so high. International travel is not something that everyone will do.

These auto renew I thought though. May want to check that 1.
 
I usually get the iPhone 20MB package when I travel to Europe -- it's mainly for a backup email service and posting the occasional picture I take with the phone.

Most of my travel is to Germany, where I have a number of data SIMs for my 3G USB modem. One of them may become a guinea pig for Mr X-Acto :)

Remember, the micro-SIM is not an Apple invention but an international standard -- most of the carriers will becoming out with micro-SIMs eventually -- they won't want people with new devices switching carriers. There should be at least one in each country where the iPad is sold.

My new backup plan is to take my old (original) iPhone that has been unlocked and jailbroken and tether to the iPad. It will only be EDGE but that will work in a pinch.
 
Wow - Expensive!

I was hoping they'd be reasonable like the domestic rates are. On my VZW BB, I pay $60 a month flat for unlimited global data, which I can pro-rate for how long I had it active for relative to just the $30 domestic plan.
 
About the international plans for 3G iPad... since its unlocked, so you can use any other carrier(local)...
but because the iPad SIM cards are smaller, the local carrier should have the similar sized/type of SIM card.
If anyone plans to go visit the Asian giants (China/India) - a company called Airtel is going to come out with special SIM cards in India for ipad use, i think starting in first or second week of August.. Not sure about similar developments in China.

Have you already bought a 3G or are you assuming that Rogers won't have a microSIM?
 
Keep in mind, MicroSIM cards are just shorter versions of regular SIMs. Its already been confirmed that you can take a regular SIM and trim it down. Just buy a local SIM card. Im looking at options for when I go to Greece this summer.

AT&T has one of those as well; it's $65 a month for iPhones and Blackberries; unlimited international data and it's prorated. Just put in your iPhone microSIM and it should be good to go.
