SO I'm one of the many Apple junkies on these forums, and I'm also a student at UBC in Vancouver.

As it turns out, I could get an iPhone BUT as far as I can tell, taking it to Canada won't work out well.

ATT seems to suck real hard with international–what I was was a $3.99 package to reduce the rates from Canada to 'only' $0.59 a minute. I didn't look very hard at the ATT store, but if there's a better way to use an iPhone on a US plan in Canada, pleas let me know. I also don't expect that the unlimited data extends that far north.

I'm a bit disappointed that ATT is so bad in Canada considering that they're on the same phone system–just different area codes.

If there's hope, post here please.

From the iPhone User Guide <http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPhone_User_Guide.pdf> page 42:

You can use iPhone to make calls in many countries around the world. You must first
enable iPhone for international roaming. International roaming is not required when
calling from the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. International
roaming charges may apply depending on your rate plan.

BUT, at&t contradicts this in a fairly expensive way, so I guess we just need a Seatlle/Detroit used to head up north and let us know

WiFi

What about using the iPhone in WiFi spots around canada especially if your home has a Airport Extreme Base Station set up?

that would be a suitable workaround for the data issues there probably will be but calls will still be ****** expensive
