International Support

I'm slightly fed up with what is now the second delay to the iPad's international launch (indeed, the Irish site doesn't even say anything about the 10 May pre-order date, so we could be getting it even later than everyone else), so I'm looking at getting one brought over from the US now.

I was wondering - if I do this, what is my support situation? If there's a problem with it, would Apple IE support me? What if I bought AppleCare, is that universal? And would either of these change once the iPad is (eventually) released over here - would they accept a US iPad for repair then?

For the wifi model I don't see a problem, as all the parts are probably standard. The 3G model might require them to order parts they do not have at the Apple Store.

nope....american iPads need to be sent to the US for service. This was confirmed when I bought my iPad in buffalo, ny on launch day.

Even for the WiFi ones? As Roessnakhan mentioned, they must be the same parts...

I've never had an issue getting service in either America or Canada for iPods and Laptops bought in the UK...

My personal experience, I purchased a Macbook off ebay from the US to Canada. Last week, there was a problem, and I brought it in for a warranty repair. It was repaired at no cost. The fact that it wasn't initially purchased in Canada, or that I was not the original buyer, never came up.

I know, an iPad is not a Macbook, ...

That's actually only true while it's still excessively available in the US. As soon as it is released in Australia I can take this straight to the Apple store in Sydney for any repairs.

Well I was told by the Apple Store rep that when Apple pulls the serial number on my iPad, they will see that it was originally purchased in the US, and will not be able to service it.

Right or wrong, thats what I was told.
