International user and Apple Music

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out, I'm looking for creating a new apple ID for the french app store, as I live here now. I've been using my Norwegian app store and now I have apple music on it too. If I create a french store will I have to log in and out of the norwegian store if I wanna listen to music or download french apps?

My main reason for changing is the practical french apps I could find for my apple watch (The watch is not even launched in Norway yet)

You can log into different AppleIDs (and associated iTunes & App Stores) in iTunes or on iOS devices, download apps and music and logout of the account and log into another one and you can still play the songs or use the apps, ie, you can mix content from various national App Stores as you want. There are some limitations:

1. In-App purchases tend to require that you are logged into the App Store from which you bought the app when purchasing in-app services.
2. To update apps you also have to be logged into the App Store from which the apps were bought (though, if you go to App Store app in iOS and tap 'Update All', you will be automatically prompted to login into the necessary stores).
3. Most importantly, you cannot mix iCloud Music Libraries from different AppleIDs. If you have iCML enabled and log out of your iTunes & App Store ID, iCML gets disabled (meaning all songs on the device that were added from Apple Music get deleted or at least hidden, only the songs you had purchased, ripped or otherwise added from other sources, ie, songs you 'own', will remain on the device). When you log back into an AppleID that has an iCML associated with it, you have to enable iCML again in the settings and Apple Music will add/download the songs obtained via Apple Music again.

That last point makes using multiple AppleIDs and Apple Music together at the very least somewhat cumbersome, at worst if you have to download hundreds or thousands of songs again every time you switch App Stores this can become a major PITA. Ideally, iTunes and the Music app on iOS would not delete the files obtained from Apple Music when logging out of an AppleID or switching off iCML (as the former includes the latter), at least not, eg, until the device is rebooted, such that logging back in and switching iCML back on would only need a short sync of list of songs (and playlists).

However, if switching off iCML does not delete the songs from Apple Music (and keeps them as hidden files), a lot of people will complain bitterly that iCML is eating their storage without any way to get rid of these files (short of restoring a device). An interesting conundrum for Apple, it'll be interesting to see which option they have actually chosen (or will chose, as these decisions might still be in flux). Given that, eg, rented movies sometimes would hang around on your iPad even after the rental period had expired indicates that Apple even had problems to implement a consistent procedure for a comparatively simpler situation.

That was a great and informative post! Thank you! I guess the uncertainties weigh heavier than the opportunities of getting another app selection... I also heard one can loose ones apps from the original store when signing in to a new one.

The Apple Music part is also a deal-breaker for having two accounts in my opinion.

Is there any workaround to get some french apps? Like VPN.. I don't know

The only workaround I can see is to only use iCML on your phone but not in iTunes. Then you can switch between multiple accounts in iTunes and get apps from different stores without it affecting

There are a lot people (me included) who have two (or more) accounts for various reasons. Even for merely getting app updates we have to switch stores. My hope is that dealing with switching iCML on and off inside iTunes will become workable once iCML has become more stable. iTunes is running on computers with more horsepower than iOS devices have and will be more often connected to a fast and unmetered internet connection than a phone will be.

you can play your music on your device if its already on your device. playing it is no problem. but re-downloading it is not possible as long as your machine is associated with the other ID.

now, with apple music, and iCloud Music Library, I would imagine your results would get terribly mixed up.
unless of course you mean to get apple music subscriptions on both iTunes accounts...

I've got the same here on iPad.

technically this is true, but although i had to transfer AppleID to use Apple music on Mac, i now get can't use it also on iPad because every time i sign in with same Apple id that has been transferred i can't turn on icloud, every time i try i get get ".....wait 87 days."then i then icloud gets disabled.

I'm guessing this is because its tired to serial number as well.

having only one iTunes ID usually works for apps since app sellers usually sell their apps in most of the major app stores.
but it doesn't work as well for music and movies. and certainly doesn't work for tv programs. in the case of tv programs you need to have the USA iTunes store ID since most maybe all USA tv programs are not available in non-USA iTunes stores.
for music i have found about 90% overlap in the japanese store with music available in the USA store.
for movies, about 60%.

definitely having 2 iTunes IDs is necessary for a lot of media purchases still.
