My MacBook Pro is being weird.

On Catalina, it was fine when it came to network access. I upgraded to Big Sur and it developed an enraging issue where internet would seem to gradually slow down until it effectively stopped altogether. It didn't really slow down bandwidth-wise, if you tried to load a web page there would be an ever increasing delay before the page loaded. If you could load a page it would then happily stream HD video content or whatever, it just might take 1 minute to load the page, then 2 minutes, then eventually it just timed out and then you have no web access at all for all intents and purposes. A reboot would sort the issue out for an hour or two but then it would slow and eventually stop again.

I decided to try Monterrey in case that fixed the issue. At first, it made no difference. Since then however, the issue has changed. Safari is now fine again and stays that way all the time but other apps seem to lose their connections. I'm not really using that many apps at the moment tbh, but Transmission seems to go first, then FB Messenger will stop loading pics/gifs/videos and eventually it reports having lost its internet connection.
There is nothing wrong with the internet connection, never has been. The MacBook is two feet from a pretty new Unifi AP and my iPhone has never skipped a beat the whole time. Again, a reboot will fix Transmission but after any short period of relative inactivity, it stops again. I once managed to kick it to work again without a reboot but no idea what I did and haven't managed to repeat the feat yet.

I have Sophos Home installed but its not a firewall and isn't capable of filtering anything but websites as far as I know. The built in firewall is off. Turning off wifi and turning it back on makes no difference, using ethernet makes no difference, theres no VPN, Little Snitch isn't installed. I'm out of ideas.

This install has been through many Macs and many many more disks over the years migrating from one to the next so its likely it has some issues from that. It doesn't like to stay asleep, even with the lid closed, it won't stay powered off either, just boots back up. Oh and it thinks its scheduled to go to sleep at about 9:30pm but it isn't, never has been and only asserts this on random days now. The network issue is the pressing matter though. Anyone got any ideas?
