Hello all. Changed my Google account password this morning. Apple Mail/Internet Accounts is properly asking for the new login info but not accepting the login from Google (in Safari).

I click to change the account password, the window in Safari pops up with the Google login page, I log in with the new password, get to my Goog account settings page, but it doesn't look like anything is being passed back to the Account preferences to enter the new info on the Mac.

I tried removing and re-adding the Google account from scratch, and still, my Internet Account preferences isn't adding the account back in after I go through the authentication process. (see images).

I have two-factor auth enabled on my Google account. I approve the login with Gmail on my iPhone as required. Internet Accounts just hangs there like it's waiting for the info.

This is on MacBook Pro, running Catalina. 10.15.7

New account info was accepted just fine on iPhone.

Thanks all!

Update... Took the Big Sur plunge today and it seems to have fixed it.

For people who don't want to or can't update to Big Sur, you can also solve by this by generating an app password.

Google doesn't recommend this since it's not as secure as using real 2FA, but since Catalina doesn't support it properly, this is the only easy solution I know of.

I've had to do this twice with one of my Gmail accounts under Big Sur on my MBP when suddenly Mail was telling me that my username of password were not recognised.

I don't know why Google stopped accepting my password. Perhaps when my dynamic IP changed?

Google also considers Mail.app to be "less secure" and often prompts me to not allow it.

Naturally Google would prefer I use its app complete with all its ways of tracking, reading my email, and spying on me.

Thanks, but no thanks.
