Hello all,

I have a Bluetooth modem that connects to the internet via a good old phone line (dial-up connection) #. Is it possible to use this connection with an iPhone 5 running iOS 8.1.2 (not jailbroken)? (That is, pairing modem and iPhone and then accessing the modem's internet connection.)

Warm regards
Jochen

oh my god??? did compuserve make a come back??? is LooLoo still alive??

I'm sorry. this won't work. the modem works on a DUN profile ( dial up networking ) which is not supported on the iPhone.

in the old days of the nokia 6190, the cell phone had its own built in fax modem. i doubt that this is still in the iPhone

you probably have to use telnet apps or fax apps to do all the old 80s stuff.

i don't know how to connect an iPhone to external modem to call Trex or i would of done it already

Thanks for the answer! I PERSONALLY have a WLAN connection, but my mother, for whom this iPhone is a gift, has unfortunately not ... but I already thought that an iPhone doesn't support "legacy hardware". # Too bad!

its possible to bridge a dial up connection to wifi, they actually have routers that do this, but it is futile, because the phone's built in GPRS/EDGE speeds would be faster.

you would have to live in an area with no EDGE service or be so worried about using up too much cellular data on your iPhone to get a dial up modem / wifi bridge

I think that's definitely not worth the effort! But in my (my mother's) data plan there are only included 250 MB of "high speed" traffic, and after these are used up, connection speeds will be limited to 64 kbit/s. Could you (or anyone else) please give me some impression of how fast -- or slow -- that is?
