I'm having some problems with my internet going down. After I refresh my IP it will come back up. I talked with my ISP and was told that I was blocked because my usage was high and it looked like I was using applications that would refresh my IP too often (campus like connection so they can do that). He said this could come from using an application like limewire or a worm or a virus. This all started on my last Imac. The only apps I used that would connect to the internet were safari and itunes. I use netflix and hulu often, but those are the only high bandwidth sites I would use. It has continued on my current Imac. What could be causing that from my end? Is there a virus or worm scan that I can run? Thanks guys.

No, the only thing I use for downloads is Itunes. Every once in a while I'll download or rent a movie from them, and that's where I get all my music.
I use it pretty often. I may get a show or a movie going on one side of the monitor while I browse on the other. It just hasn't been a problem until about 3 weeks ago. Right now, it doesn't need a show or a movie going to shut me down. Usually it is just during regular browsing. Movies and shows have become unwatchable though.
It also does it to my PS3. It boots me off after being online after a few minutes. I don't ever play games online though. usually I just use online to download new rosters. Again, this started suddenly. It didn't use to have this problem.
How would I do that? I would think that if I was capped it would just slow down and not shut down all together, and as I said, recently its been happening when I was just browsing.
Essentially, they told me that it looks like I have something running that would refresh my IP address too often per minute and I'm getting booted. I'm just running safari, and my computer is essentially clean. I just got it last week.
I think I may have found the culprit in a strange place. I uninstalled earthdesk, and I've had no problems since then. Could this really be the source of my issue?
So I was wrong. That didn't fix it. I've spent about the last hour talking to apple care and my ISP. I'm not a computer guy, so I'm going to translate the best I can. AC had me ping my router, which was successful. Then he had me ping yahoo.com, followed by yahoo's IP address. They both timed out. Then I spoke with my ISP. ISP said that my IP address was suspended for too many connections per minute. He reviewed my traffic and confirmed that I was just browsing and using itunes. He said at one point, though, I was using half the bandwidth of the entire complex though, and he couldn't figure out why. He also said that there as an abnormally large number of dns requests. I've been using Istat, and I've found that my connection drops every time I hit a spike of about 500kb/s. I have no idea whats going on. Please help.
