Hi all,

Strange bug: after upgrading to 10.10 Yosemite, I now see a significant lower download speed on my Mac mini. It used to be 100-120Mb/s down/12Mb/s up, but with Safari 8 i'm not getting above 70Mb/s down/12Mb/s up (up is normal), with Chrome not even above 55Mb/s down.

An somewhat older Windows 7 PC gives 100Mb/s down, which would be normal.

Anyone else? Test performed on latest OSX 10.10 install and updates, Safari 8, Chrome 38.0.xxx and Ookla.

It looks like a browser issue?

Confirmed

Today I confirmed my findings:

Yosemite has a bug which slows down a browser. Today I took out an old Macbook3,1 late 2007 with OSX 10.7.5 Lion (for crapping out loud) and I get my full download speed of 120Mb/s down and 12Mb/s up. What is going on here????

Could it be:
- Ookla had a outdated engine?
- Safari 8 has a bug? (although Chrome has the same issue!)
- Is there a faulty network driver in Yosemite (for a Mac mini 2009)?

Tested with:
Mac mini late 2009 upgrade 10.9.5 to 10.10 (so safari 8)
Same ethernet cable
Macbook late 2007 10.7.5 (safari 6.1.6)

I filled a bug report with Apple Feedback, nothing heard.

Well, I found the culprit: Sophos AV for Mac 9.2.2, and then specifically the Web Protection modules. Turning them both off, regains full downstream speed.

So it's an issue of Sophos AV and OSX 10.10 (no issue with Sophos AV and 10.9 and before)
