Internet Problems

Am having some issues with my internet connection since last week. I cannot for some reason access any secure sites with Safari and i get a "Server stopped responding" error.
Also P2P and IRC don't work either, all programs i tried cannot establish a connection. At first i thought it must be an ISP issue so i called support and they couldn't find anything wrong. Then i noticed that Firefox loads secure sites just fine so ISP issues were ruled out, but now i don't have an idea what might be wrong. Anyone has a clue what might be the problem?

As i said i don't have any firewalls, i have a DSL connection through an ethernet modem and os x's firewall is off.

problem solved... i called support again and this other guy told me that my ip was 'stuck' somehow he reset it and now everything is working fine. What did he mean by that and can i reset the ip myself?
