this happened only couple times but I was visting a website and it suddenly redirected me to a mackeeper site, or a random mackeeper popup would appear. i have a firewall on, my dns is set to my isp's...should I be worried this happened and how can i prevent this.

pretty sure I just foreced quit, im sure if I pressed the OK button on the popup an install option would appear, and yes i know not to install it lol

You are just seeing compromised sites that are attempting to scare you into installing the MacDefender Scareware (or one of its variants). Ignore and do not click on them.

Run the Apple Software Update so you can pick up the Apple tool that watches for MacDefender.
