Behind the lens
In the last couple of days I noticed I was lagging ALOT in Warcraft3 DotA games, so bad I had to leave each game before it finished.

It was truly weird as nothing in my internet config has changed, settings or hardware wise. My machine is on 24/7 and rarely restarted, so I dont know what could have happened to drop my speed so significantly.

So I figgered I should try an online speed test.

Checked out speakeasy's and was getting :

Download Speed: 30-75k/sec
Upload Speed: 65-90k/sec

my normal should be more like 500+k/sec download, the upload is pretty normal at 75k up. Sometimes speakeasy was giving me way lower downloads than that.

reset the modem.

restarted the machine.

installed the dreaded 10.4.8 update.

same problem.

I am maxing out at about 80k/sec and surfing sometimes is even slower than that.

So I called Cox Communications (my cable provider) and they said I was having "some packet loss" and they will send someone out, blah blah.

Anyone ever seen this kind of thing?

ps: at work I get these results:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 33756 kbps (4219.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 4735 kbps (591.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

You mean kilobyte/second, right?

i believe you questioned me on the distinction between kilobit and kilobyte.. i just wanted to say that while some people don't, i believe most ppl on macrumor that has been around for a while knows the distinction and could differentiate those two...
