Internet Stops Working

So I have a question and I have searched and only found stuff from 2011. Here is my set up:

2015 13" MBPr
Time Capsule 5Ghz
Latest Version of El Capitan
Safari Browser

iPhone 6S Plus
Latest iOS


So for some reason when I am on my computer I will be surfing different sites and for some reason the internet will just stop, the new window will just sit there and not load but the progress bar is about 15% and doesn't move. I have to close out safari completely for it to start working.

On my iPhone, first time this happened was last night, I was on the BBC app connected to the same Wifi Network and the BBC app said, images and articles will be slow to load as the wireless connection is slow.

I have Cox for my internet and have the 100mbps download speed and speedtest.net confirms it. But I can not figure out why this is doing this.

I saw an article online about deleting the wifi prefs and renewing the DHCP (I think thats what it is) and that didn't not help. I have also reset the PRAM and SMC to no help either. I have restarted my Time Capsule but not my router (wandering if I should try that)

Does anyone experience this or have any luck fixing this?

As long as you do not restart your router you cannot exclude it as the reason of the problem.
It is the closest link in your chain to the internet, therefore I would first suspect it...and if that does not help check with your ISP.

OP:

The next time this happens, open Terminal and then enter this:

sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

When prompted, enter your administrative password (you will not be able to see the password characters as you enter it).

Then close terminal and try Safari again.

Any better?

Hi. You should check to see if anything is actually blocking the wireless signal - such as having the router down low somewhere hidden away. Anything metal around it might interfere with the signal. Thick concrete walls will slow it right down also.

The DNS settings in system preferences -> network -> advanced -> DNS: You could change them to the Google Public DNS: 8.8.8.8 and the second one 8.8.4.4 https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/ This will speed things up (although you seem to be getting the 100mbps speed)

Make sure your network is running on the 5Ghz in Airport Utility (or whatever router you are using) . I think the 5Ghz is less "congested" in terms of wifi signals https://support.google.com/fiber/answer/2732316?hl=en (e.g. neighbours signals - people walking along the street with mobile phone. The signals come from everywhere. Their more than likely all on the 2.4Ghz channel. You can see the other networks as they appear in the wifi options in the wifi network name sometimes - when you choose the network to use for your wifi)

As poster above said also - a simple restart of you router (the usual leave it turned off for 30 seconds) might do the trick.

Just some things I have ended up trying over the years.

You mention Cox and I am too lazy to crunch your coordinates but it is very possible that your issue is related to the messy implementation of IPv6 that Cox is currently rolling out in most areas of the US. In my case Cox began rolling out IPv6 in the Tucson AZ area about 6 weeks ago. That's when my sudden Internet freezes started. After numerous calls with Cox tech support and replacing almost all Internet related hardware for naught, the situation is slightly better but there are still occasional slow downs throughout the day. Power cycling your router and/or modem will probably resolve the issue temporarily. Be careful with any tweaks you make to your MBP or iPhone. What brands are your modem and router?

I'm having the same issue as OP, and it never happens when running Boot Camp. Internet on other computers works fine and my phone works fine.

So you aren't having the issue on multiple devices and my comments don't apply. Various issues at various places can cause such a symptom, where they occur between the devices and the internet will dictate whether a single, multiple or all devices on the home network are affected.
