Does anyone know what maximum upload/download speeds I can expect on my Mac Studio? I currently have a 1.5Gbps plan and see upload and download speeds of around 960Mbps. The modem says it's receiving data at 1.5Gbps but that hardware limitations slow it to under 1Gbps. Is this all correct? Just want to make sure I'm getting the speeds I'm paying for or know if I'm wasting money on this. Thanks.

Mac Studio features 10Gbps ethernet so the limitation must be elsewhere.

Your router could be limited to 1Gbps.

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure if the 10Gbps was only for LAN. I will look into the router. Thanks.

You will only see more than 960Mbps when you upgrade ALL network units between your modem and your Mac Studio, including the cables. If the ISP is selling you 1.5Gbps they should provide you with a modem with at least one 2.5Gbps port.

I was just in the exact same situation, and upgraded my switch and cables to 10Gbps.

Thanks for your reply. I checked the router and had the ethernet cable in the wrong port. Got blazing fast speeds now.

I have dismal upload and download speeds, but it is my Internet, not the Mac. According to my provider I am at the end of the signal. Covid stalled plans for fioptics so it will be another few years before things get better. I can still function, but uploading is a hassle.

Have you tried looking at other options, perhaps there is a WISP instead?

Wireless bridges can reach very far these days, especially the 60GHz variants while also reaching 1Gbps duplex.

Depending on what you mean when you say dismal, and where you live, a one-time investment into StarLink may be worth considering.
