I tried to purchase an hd movie on my computer and got the message that I'm not permitted to download an hd file because my computer and/or monitor do not support hdcp. However, I don't really care if the file plays on my computer as I"m only interested in watching on the apple tv 2. If I make the purchase through my ipad or iphone, can I then transfer it to the computer and still be able to play it through the atv2? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also, I've heard that the hdcp issue only presents itself on windows seven computers. Follow up question is whether I can do the download through itunes on a Vista computer and transfer it over without a problem.

I use a Windows 7 machine and my monitor is only vga so dosen't support hdcp and I've purchased tons of HD content from iTunes with no problems.

Yes, I don't see why not.

As long as you use the same iTunes store account then yes. But I'd be more interested in finding out whats causing the problem you're having. Have you got the latest version of iTunes? Have you tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it?

Thanks for the response. From the research I've done, it seems that it's related more to my video drivers not supporting hdcp rather than the monitor itself, but I'm totally ignorant as to drivers and such so perhaps that doesn't make any sense. Either way, from searching the internet, it's clear to me that the message I'm getting is actually quite common, but I've just never seen anyone ask with relation to getting the file another way so that they can still play the hd version on the atv2 (my understanding is that you get both the hd and sd version when you purchase the hd version of a movie/show). I also assume that I can transfer the file from the ipad to the computer, but if I can still only play the sd version from the computer to the atv, I'd rather not spend the extra cash.

btw, I do have the latest version of itunes. I've actually read that the older versions of itunes don't have this issue.

Does your computer have intergrated graphics then? Is it only VGA out? Because if it's DVI out and made within the past few years then it should support hdcp. What computer/gfx card is it?

No, you're not actually playing the HD file on the computer, you're streaming it to the ATV so it shouldn't be a problem.

The video card is a nvidia geforce 6150se nforce 430, which as best I can tell does not support HDCP.
