Interview Tips

Hi,
In a couple of days I am going to have an interview with a job I am applying for (Cold Stone) and since this is my first interview I need some tips.

Any help is much appreciated.

1. Wear a shirt and tie.
2. Smile and be polite and courteous.

I dont think a shirt and tie is necessary for Cold Stone (it is a ice cream parlor). I don't think it will be an interview really ( as in not having to solve problems or talk to multiple interviewing people) but more of just talking to the manager and seeing if the manager likes you.

I would wear slacks and a collared shirt personally

Make eye contact with the interviewer. Nod every once in a while to show you're paying attention.

Appear confident, and act like you understand everything he/she is saying.

Smile.

Have good posture. Be upbeat and energetic (but not over the top).

Be relaxed.

I was thinking of wearing a polo shirt and cargo shorts (its a bit hot out for dress pants)

prepare a list of possible questions you may have about either your possible position, expectations or the company in general. Memorize these. Eye contact.

a tie is definitely way over the top for Cold Stone......slacks and a collared shirt is a better idea

I would agree with this one. I am glad some one pointed out that it was just a ice cream parlor. wearing a tie would be a quick way not to get the job...

Speaking of interviews; I have an interview for a full-time, summer "Accounting Assistant" position at Kerry Ingredients (kerrygroup.com). I am thinking that nice pants, shirt, and tie would be appropriate. Do you think that sounds right? And also, should I come with lots of questions? They always say that asking questions looks good in an interview but I am not sure how much effort I need to put into this, since it is only for the summer. Will they be expecting me to ask questions and stuff or just be a bit more casual since it is not a permanent position?

Edit: When I said I don't know how much effort to put in, I don't mean I am going to slack and act like I don't care. I just am not sure if I need to act like this will determine my career and come in knowing everything about the company, etc.

A tie would be overboard given their work attire, but you should definitely dress two steps above what you'll be expected to wear to the job. It shows respect to the business and manager conducting the interview.

Avoid "um" and "you know."

Have answers prepared for the likely questions you'll be asked, such as:

"What did you like and dislike about your previous job?"
"Why did you leave your previous job?"
"Why do you want to work at Cold Stone?"
"What are some of your strengths? Some of your weaknesses?"
"Tell me more about these felony charges on your record?"
