Hello!

Continuing on from my previous thread about the power adapter question, my 17" Powerbook 1.5 arrived today!

After replacing the superdrive, the machine works absolutely flawlessly and the only other part i need is a new battery. After removing over 65gb of personal information (why do people do this?!) from the machine and installing a new copy of Leopard, it absolutely flies, running circles around my 12" 867. The machine even came with 1.5gb of RAM, not far off maxed out.

This machine completes my slight Powerbook trio, as I also own the aforementioned 12" 867 and a TiBook 400mhz (as well as 2 iBooks). Although I wouldn't say it was in amazing condition due to some fairly nasty dings on the corners, the machine looks brand-new inside which I suppose is most important.

Now, a question to all of you G4 owners out there: what do you use your machines for. I don't really want to abandon this machine in a cupboard as I feel it could be used for something productive, ideally to complement my main MBP. Any ideas are welcome.

Enough of that, here are some pictures! I hope you'll agree that for £26 + shipping, it's not a bad deal!

Looks great! I am likely going to be picking up one of these in the future too, I just love the old designs, and it's amazing how quick the G4 systems still are to this day.

Very nice! I am of course, very, very partial to the 17" PowerBooks. They are the absolute very first laptops that Apple made that I had any interest in.

I have a duo purpose for my 17s (PB and MBP). The MBP stays at home and I use it here (when I am not on my Quicksilver). It goes with me to Starbucks on the weekends. My PB goes with me every day to work.

The MBP handles more intense tasks such as design and graphics while my PB handles email, web browsing and light word processing.

Before my MBP, my other 17" DLSD (now dead) did what the MBP does. I can and still often do carry BOTH 17" Macs in my bag (both will fit).

Well, in light of eyoungren's TenFourFox tweaks and my discoveries with ClickToFlash in Leopard WebKit I use mine for all sorts of browsing including videos. I also do some basic programming on it and play some video games. My MacBook Pro generally goes to college with me and to high school as well simply due to the need for cloud storage like Google Drive, but I could easily make a work around for that. My plan is to get a 1.42 GHz iBook G4 as my daily driver school device, but now that all my books are on my computer I need to see about that.

Some software that I use rather regularly on my PowerBook:

Audacity
Spotify
Office 2004 or 2008
iChat (With AIM account)
VLC
TextWrangler
Mars Explorer (Great Free Game)
Adium (Instant Messaging)
MacTracker
CoRD
TenFourFox
Leopard WebKit
Battlefield 1942
etc.

I don't set rules on whether I grab my MacBook Pro or my PowerBook like some others do. Whichever is closer (with the exception of video editing) is what I use as they both can easily accomplish what I need them to.
