How can I stop this from coming up? I'm not kidding when I say I've gotten this every 5 minutes for the past 25 minutes or so.

And no, I don't want to update right now, I'm busy trying to do my work and I don't want to close everything out, wait 30+ mins for the update, then have to set everything back up again. I'd like to not be disturbed.

I clicked on the notification (*not* one of the buttons, the notification itself). It took me to the Settings app, update page. I then just closed out of that. It hasn't asked me again yet. This was like 3-4 days ago.

What are you clicking on? Try Tonight, or simply closing the notification? Use "Try Tonight" if you haven't done that already.

The obvious first:

Check what is currently set in "Settings > General > Software Update > Automatic Updates"?

Dunno if still possible in more recent OS versions but I've set Notification Center on all of mine to Do Not Disturb from 00:00 to 23:59 as well as using a firewall that blocks outgoing connections (LuLu or Little Snitch) to prevent the update service - among others - from checking in with the home base.

Nuking it all from orbit, basically. Only way to stay sane.
If I am feeling cute and really want an update, I temporarily lift the ban and let it search from the About screen.

You can't "close" the notification; unlike most others, there is no "X" to dismiss it.
(See above, I clicked on the notification itself — not the buttons — and it went away, bringing me to the update screen in Settings. And then I just closed that.)

With automatic macOS updates turned off, this notification still appears.

Just saw that Apple broke the process SuperDuper uses to create bootable backups in 15.2. Stuff like this is exactly why I like to wait a few days before doing a macOS update, just to see what's what. (I don't use SuperDuper, but I do use Carbon Copy Cloner, so I'll have to check on that...)

[Edit]
Looks like CCC is impacted, and maybe Time Machine too.

I suppose "Automatic Updates" governs whether updates are initially downloaded, and this notification pertains to an update that has already been downloaded.

I've read from one site that turning off "Install macOS updates" effectively cancels installation of an update that has been previously downloaded (and would theoretically halt that particular notification), but I'm not sure. If not, I bet there's a more technical solution for this particular situation.

Speaking generally, though, having all those toggles switched off is sufficient to sidestep this entire category of notifications.

I had the other toggles turned on. I just turned off the one to "Download new updates when available" and we'll see if that makes any difference.

I have "Install updates from the App Store" turned on because I actually want that... And I have "Install Security Responses" turned on because it will not let me have Apple Pay enabled if I do not. (I've only see them actually push out a rapid security response once...)
