invalid file format when streaming

When I try and stream movies from my iTunes library to my appletv it comes up as “invalid file format” but when I sync the exact same files they play fine on the Apple TV. This hasn’t always happened to me and it does it with files it has streamed before. I did a search but the only thread I could find this issue was unsolved.

Make sure the file is available from iTunes (ie, if it is located on an external drive, make sure it is mounted). If so, re-start the ATV.
This always fixes the (quite common) issue for me.

They are all stored on my internal hard drive, they all play fine on the computer too.

this seems to an issue with the link being broken or corrupted for these files. like the other poster said, re-starting the atv, itunes or both has always solved the problem for me.
