Invisible photos consuming 6GB of space

The storage tab of About This Mac shows 6GB of space consumed by photos. But I don't store any photos on my mac and Photos app is disconnected from iCloud and empty too. How do I find these images that are consuming space?

Just ignore it. That storage readout on El Capitan is completely messed up and wrong.

I'm seeing similar problems here as well. I think the storage tab is bugged and doesn't accurately tell the different data types. Mine somehow says I have 100+GB of 'other' and 0 GB of apps (I have like 50+ apps though)

Sometimes restarting fixes this and sometimes it doesn't.

I don't know if this works here but I have a strange problem with El Capitan.

If I import an mp4 into iTunes it won't let me delete the original even with all related apps closed (iTunes, QuickTime, etc). If I open trash and click "delete immediately" and watch the section About this Mac. It will move it from "Movies" to "Other".

So while it deletes it from my sight I don't actually get the space back. I can do this until the disk is full and unusable.

I'm not too familiar with the inner workings of OS X. Is there a method or place I can look to find and remove these files?

Do you happen to have Time Machine turned on? If you do, when you delete files, they don't actually get deleted but they get moved to a hidden /.Mobilebackups folder. The OS will start to delete them when the drive approaches 80% full.

It was like this in Yosemite also, although I think it is now worse with El Capitan. You can reindex Spotlight and it gets better, but the Spotlight index gets corrupted and the storage graphic drifts off again.

Right now I have about 8GB in a Photos library that that storage graphic says I have 1GB of Photos. Total mess.
