Iomega FWHD as startup

iMac G4 Flat-panel 17", OS 10.4.11, 1MHz, 1.25 RAM: I've partitioned my IO HD to one, named it "Apple", set for PPC. It will startup from "Apple" only when selected each time, will not boot from "Apple" automatically. What have I missed doing?

Go into system preferences -> startup disk, and select the one you want it to automatically use
