You know like many living in the USA, we get at least 5-7 telemarket spam phones calls. On a bad day it’s worst, up to ten. I’ve tried apps such as hiya but there’s always at least 5 or so that get through. That’s the minimum. It’s either the IRS is coming to arrest me for the 1000th time this year, a Chinese person talking, nonsense phone calls selling me solar, or how I can save this or that. I’m surprised viagra scammers aren’t calling me!!!

I just want a way for phone calls to not interrupt my music, or video, or book, or game I’m viewing on my phone. Can’t the phone alert appear as a banner? I’m looking at my phone already I can’t miss it, why disrupt my music for none sense phone calls. The worst part, again, it happens constantly. Every day. Let me choose to interrupt what I’m doing looking at my phone, not have the spam phone call invade my full screen, stopping everything.

Wish granted #2: iOS 13 has an option to only ring calls from numbers in Contacts, Messages, Mail.

Silence unknown callers
A new setting protects users from unknown and spam callers. When the setting is turned on, iOS uses Siri intelligence to allow calls to ring your phone from numbers in Contacts, Mail, and Messages. All other calls are automatically sent to voicemail.

Your wish is granted. Going forward, turn on “do not disturb.”
That answers the issue for spam calls, but Do Not Disturb sends calls straight to voicemail. If a message isn’t left you won’t know you missed a call. If you decline a call when DND isn’t on, there isn’t a missed alert to remind you to call back either.

The ideal behaviour for me is stop incoming calls from completely flooding your screen and allow them to ring off without disrupting what you happen to be doing. This way you know there was a call and you’ll have the missed alert to remind you to call back.

In 2019, we shouldn’t still be in a position where you need to remember to manually turn your phone to Do Not Disturb mode just because you’re recording a video and don’t want incoming FaceTime calls abruptly terminating it. This has never been an issue on Android.

Your request has been available via jailbreak since at least iOS 7.

Callbar

Blocking Spam calls has been available since before iOS 6.

iBlacklist

I've been using all this stuff people keep asking for (including Dark Mode) since late 2011.

If you're on Tmobile, they offer a spam blocking service for $5/mo. Doesn't eliminate all of them but I would estimate 80-90% are gone.

$5?????

I use Spam Block and one of their other services. They've been $0 since launch. Is this some new improved service?

AT&T Call Protect is free.

I can see iOS 13 stopping "unknown" (blocked) numbers.

I do not see it stopping calls where the telemarketer is spoofing a number. Only the telecom people can do that. The majority of my calls show a spoofed number and even Call Protect has trouble with these.

There's free and premium (ads a bunch of options through the app). I don't know if it it's worth the $5 vs the free option but it cut my spam calls drastically so I use it happily

It might be worth checking with them if they are charging you to see if there is a difference, might save you $5.

Scam Block
Allows you to block all likely scammers before they reach you. Now included at no extra cost.

Edit: Actually it looks like if you subscribe to Name ID you get some extra "nuisance call" blocking that will send those type of calls right to voicemail, telemarketing, politcal, etc. That's interesting, didn't know about that.

If you’re in the US, sign up for Google Voice and use that number for any 3rd party that require a phone number. Google will sort it out and you can label those calls as spam, just like email.

Have that already. They find your number man regardless.

Anyway, I wished the incoming call screen didn’t have to take up the phone screen and interrupt everything is all I request. It would be awesome but I guess when the moon rises in south that will happen.
