My battery percentage has been crazy since updating to 10.1.1.

My iPhone 6 will be fine on 30%, and then there is a sudden drop to less than 5%, resulting in total shutdown moments later.

Any body have this issue?

Hello TranceJD,

Did you check your battery usage. Also check what applications are running and consuming battery.
Personally, I did not come across to such issue but signing out from cloud and signing back may help you in this case.

Haven't heard anything about update 10.1.1 has such issue, but still you can this fix.

Thank you,
Delia

I haven't had any problems in the past, but the day I upgraded to 10.1.1, the problems began.

After some research, it appears that a lot of users are having battery issues on 10.1.1.

Hopefully 10.2 will patch this issue. Thanks

Considering the iPhone 6 is an older device, it is possible that the battery has begun to fail. If you have a Mac, you can use Coconutbattery to determine the health of your battery. if its below 80%, it is very common to see erratic behavior that you have described.

Thank you, but as mentioned, the iPhone is only 5 months old. It was still for sale throughout the first year of 6S sales.

I doubt it's failing already. I've since updated to the 10.2 beta, and battery seems to be much better.

Happens to me on my 6+ when I play golf, I have a shot tracking app that displays my shots. This causes the screen to be on all the time, the battery drain is normal (but fast) to around 20-25% then drops to 1% and the device shuts down. I have a battery case that I switch on when my battery starts to get low.

I'm on the 10.2 Beta and was still seeing the problem on Beta 3, I haven't been out since Beta 4 has been installed.

I understand battery drain when the app is open, but the weird 25% jump in drain is just weird.

Since updating to 10.2, I've been getting 6.5 hours battery usage and 19 hours standby time when the battery is at 1%, so I'm quite happy with that. Today was the first day I haven't had an issue.

Is your 6+ quite old? I remember my old iPhone 5 had serious battery failure. Jumping from 60% to 1% within 5 minutes. Luckily I had AppleCare, and they replaced it.

A battery can fail overnight a week after you bought the phone. If a battery is defective, its defective. Its always worth keeping a track of the health.

I wish I ran into this post sooner. I have an iPhone 6 (2 yrs old) running Beta 10.2 (3rd release) and I have had extensive trouble with battery life as a beta tester, I've reported issues to Apple. I would occasionally be using the phone then it would go black, when I went to turn it back on, it would give me the critical battery indicator (black screen with the battery with the red line) indicating need of charge. I would connect the phone to a power source and the phone would reset and come back on with 40% or more remaining magically. I was so concerned as it was happening so often I visited a genius and they ran a complete test wirelessly at the Apple store and found that everything checked out "normal". I just updated to 10.2 (4th release) just today and I'll see if this helps. My friends report the same issue with an issue in battery usage/reporting; some on 10.2 some 10.1.1. We'll see if Apple figures it out.

Plugging in and suddenly jumping to 40% sounds like battery failure to me, rather than a software issue.

I had the exact same with my iPhone 5 in 2013.

Although 10.1.1 certainly isn't helping. The number of threads online regarding 10.1.1 poor battery is endless!

iPhone 6 / 6S batteries are super simple to replace. Maybe you would consider it seeing as your device is already out of warranty? Apple is super difficult when it comes to battery replacements. The only reason I got my iPhone 5 fixed was because I had AppleCare and I did an express replacement.

My wife's iPhone 6 is experiencing the exact same issues mentioned here. Sudden shut downs. Eratic drops in battery percentage. Plug it in after it dies and suddenly it's at 80%.
I forgot to delete her beta profile after iOS 10 came out and she didn't know so she's been getting beta updates. She's on 10.2 beta 3 I think. I took her phone to Apple to have the battery tested. They ran the test twice and the battery is fine. Employee recommended a full restore.
Anyway, apparently software can cause these issues.

My 6 has been doing this for the last couple
months. Before iOS 10. No beta software has been installed. Nothing I've done has fixed it, apple says the battery is in spec. I've resorted to carrying a battery pack with me. I've had it shut off as high as 70% and it will display 70% again when it turns back on with the battery pack connected. Very very frustrating.

I remember reading somewhere in some small print that Apple will not replace a faulty battery. It's not covered in their warranty. That's why my last option was to get a replacement unit through AppleCare.

Your only other option is to buy a battery on eBay and replace yourself. It's manageable with the right tools and some research. Total cost, about €35.

Sounds like a faulty/ dying battery to me. I had the exact same in my old iPhone 5 after 21 months usage. Read my earlier replies. It's such a disappointment that these iPhones are still great devices, but their longevity sucks because of cheap batteries.

Actually this issue is relatively widespread. I've read several articles that point this out. Google iOS 10.1.1 Battery
This also happened a couple times to my mom's 5s. Our best bet is to hold our breath and wait for apple to acknowledge.
Good day!

Thank you TranceJD for the comment and I am glad that somehow and to some extent your issue is fixed.

Thank you,
Delia

I've had this issue since I've upgraded to 10.1.1. It would show 50% then shut off. When I try to restart, it shows critical battery low indicator. Plug in the charger and it show 45% or more.

Other times, it would show 100% and I would be watching video for 30 minutes or longer and it still show 100% battery.

It has to be the software.

Staying at 100% for a longer period of time than when it drops from there is fairly typical and something that happens with most phones and batteries given how voltages are used to estimate the battery percentages.

I'm amazed how many people posting on this forum have never noticed this until now.. it's always been this way.
