iOS 10.1 Scanning Photos AGAIN for Faces???

When iOS 10 came out, I spent hours going through my photos on my iPhone merging and tagging faces.

I was really disappointed when I realized none of that effort sync'd across devices.

Today, after updating to iOS 10.1, my phone is rescanning all 24,534 pictures again. It appears to have saved the tags, because the faces it's found so far are being given the correct name, but why is it scanning everything again? My iPad (old Mini-2) isn't scanning everything again after updating it to 10.1.

Because they changed/improved the algorithm to recognize whats in the pictures.
But none of my units is rescanning the pictures so I think it´s a isolated incident that yours are doing it.

My iPhone wanted to rescan after the update too, and has been stuck for a long time. Not sure what is going on. Did you manage to find a fix?

No. I'm just letting it do the rescan. 16,290 scanned with 9703 remaining.

It has appeared to have lost most of the tags. A few of them have popped up on the album screen with the appropriate names for the individual, but many faces are untagged behind the "Add People" button. I'm waiting on it to finish scanning before I go through the process of merging again.
