Ok, so I installed iOS 10.2 on my iPhone SE. Can see new Preserve Settings menu in Photos & Camera settings:

If I remember correctly, before update, every time I opened the Camera app it always re-set to the 'Photo' mode. Now, in iOS 10.2, it always stays in mode which was used last time. So, for example, if I used the 'Video' mode and I quit from the Camera app, next time I open it I can still have the 'Video' mode. Doesn't matter what I switch on/off in the settings above, it always shows me last mode.
I tried restarting iPhone after changes - didn't help. I also tried hard-reset - didn't help.

Anyone else having the same problems in iPhone SE?

Thank you.

That will not take you back to Photo if you have that toggle enabled, and that is not a bug.

It doesn't matter what I have enabled/disabled - it always takes me to the last used mode.

I want it always to revert back to Photo mode, I left it disabled. But it doesn't do this.

You can change the mode, anyway.

You don't understand what the problem is, do you?

I'm saying that there is a bug in iPhone SE and also looks to be the same in 5S. These new options don't do what they suppost to do.

Don't ask me. Please report directly to Apple at bugreport.apple.com.

Looks like someone doesn't understand the idea of what a forum is about. I'm updating my 7 to 10.2 now and will check to see if everything works as designed. Still have my 5S so I can check that as well.

Thank you OriginalAppleGuy. Will be waiting to see if you experience the same problem on 5S. Or maybe it doesn't work at all (as designed) and 7's have the same bug.

Well, I've tried a few things and have the same issue you describe on my 7 Plus. The last mode is preserved no matter where the switch is set. I'll update my 5S later but expect the same results. Looks like 10.2.1 will be coming soon.

Same problem observed on iPhone 7 Plus.

Don't ask me. Please report directly to Apple at bugreport.apple.com.

The reasons for asking the community about a bug are threefold:
  1. Confirms that it is not a misunderstanding on my part. Sometimes a bug is really user error.
  2. Confirms how widespread such a problem is. If everyone is reporting it, as here, there is no need for me to try things like a reboot, hard reset, etc.
  3. Sometimes someone has figured out a workaround for a bug until Apple does fix it.

I'm done with this thread. Good luck with that bug you recently faced.

Just checked and yes, no matter what the setting is it will open with the last camera mode and filter used.

How can things like this pass through such a long beta period is beyond me.

Hope they fix it soon. I don't use filters but I do use Video and Pano often and I would hate to open Camera app to shoot a quick photo only to find out it is set in Video or Pano. A stupid feature if you ask me.

Edit. I'm on an iPhone 6.
[doublepost=1481730835][/doublepost]Could someone try to reset all settings to see if it fixes this. I could but until tonight.

Okay so tried it on the 5S. Same thing. This time though I tried using the camera before going in to the settings. It's like the switch doesn't even exist. I agree with netsped's comment about how it could pass through the beta period. I wonder if testers went to the settings, set it positive, saw it worked then moved on.

Haven't tried performing the reset all settings. Don't really want to do that so I leave that to someone who does.

it "resets" settings (if nothng is iactivated in presets ) after 60seconds or so (locked my iPhone e.g. and unlocked 60s later to check)... same behaviour with iOS 10.2 an iOS 10.2.1 on my iPhone 7+.

Spot on! You're right. Seems like default settings are re-set after 60sec. Wow! I wish Apple let us know about it in the description.

Same issue on my SE, and I'm on 10.2.1. Filed a bug report for it, and you should too if you're affected.

Wow. This is correct.

I don't know if it's something I like but at least it will only happen within a minute or so.

It would be better if they detail stuff like this instead of announcing every new emoji they change/add.
