Do you mean within the conversation screen itself, or on the main conversation list screen?

Have you checked Settings > Messages > Show Contact Photos? Also, what device are we talking about?

I have an Iphone 6S. iOS 10.3.1 update. I don't have those options in messages.

The settings aren't in the app itself. From the iPhone home screen, open Settings. Then scroll down to Messages. There will be an option to Show Contact Photos.

It sounds like you are suing the zoomed view on the 6s, and I believe that option isn't there for that view given that it doesn't provide as much space for elements on the screen (similar to a 4" screen).

Good catch! I wouldn't have noticed that.

Only plus size phone has that feature. All others don't have.
So iPhone 6s is surely out of luck.

Sorry that isn't true. My wife's 6s and my 7, both same screen size and not a "Plus", have the ability to show contact pictures in Messages.

This changed in iOS 9 I believe. Contact photos now display for 4.7 and 5.5 inch screens, both in the messages list and within a conversation.

Then my memory was wrong maybe, cause being able to display contact photo was highlighted in one WWDC event. Maybe an iOS 8 thing. I didn't remember.
